Rackspace recently released version 12.2 of Rackspace Private Cloud (RPC) based on the Liberty release. In RPC v12.2, Rackspace supports Load Balancing as a Service (LBaaS). Since LBaaS is still a relatively new offering in the OpenStack community, I want to provide more details to help users understand what LBaaS does and how it can be used in an OpenStack cloud.
Today’s post will provide a technical overview of LBaaS by answering four questions:
- What is load balancing and Load Balancing as a Service?
- How does LBaaS work in OpenStack?
- What does Rackspace recommend for load balancing in OpenStack?
- What may be the future of LBaaS in RPC?
